Grand Prize: 2000 (+400 Bonus) Atoms

About the game:

Fallout Online has been a topic instances, fans tried to convert this world that is popular into the MMO format. Recall how Interplay's Project V13 in 2012 finally drowned? Now it's clear the ugly squabble about copyright was needed. Nonetheless, it's unlikely that by digging out a hole for Chris Taylor's team, Maryland was counting on a welcome of the own version of Fallout Online.

The community Fallout 76 long prior to the launch. And there was a reason behind that! Let's flex a few fingers: no more Steam supporta cardboard box using a code instead of a disk, a lot of bugs on all platforms, 50-gigabyte spots, absolute neglect of the world's mythology, just to drag Brotherhood of Steel and super mutants to the undertaking, abandonment of mods, flawed role-playing system, obsolete engine, older graphics, microtransactions... Oops, I ran out of fingers to count. There is an ocean of factors. And not all of them are far-fetched.

Let us agree on the shore: this review is not a post by a fanatic. Yes, I still have a deep affection and love for the origins of the Fallout series, however I calmly accepted what Todd Howard and his enrichment plant turned it into. Did the action-RPG from a leisurely isometric role-playing computer video game with conflicts? Alright, so be it. Abolished the dialogue and role system, providing in return the opportunity safeguard them endlessly and to construct settlements? Nothing is going to do. And only following the news about micropayments and online, I still could not stand it: damn donations got right into here! Is Bethesda haunting EA laurels?

The writer shook my faith in the future of singles, and also the "purchased once - play with your whole life" model, therefore immediately after launching Fallout 76, I rose into the in-game store using a heavy heart. It was that not every thing is really bad: the Atomic Shop sells a huge array of decorative things like light queen costume, stupid New Year's glasses, emotions and presents for photo style to light audio (yes, there is also a photo mode today ). Here you can purchase, for instance, doorways that are new or laminate flooring - in a word, the final transformation of this show into a version of The Sims was held.

The medium of exchange is "atoms," which can be obtained at a predatory rate for real cash or earn straight in the computer video game. And this, I must admit, is not so hard: the superior money is given for literally every activity like breaking up four terminals or killing ghouls, so it's rather realistic to have enough to get a cowboy hat or a desk lamp in the form of a nuclear mushroom. And yes, except for cosmetics, there's almost nothing in the shop: the "kill all" button isn't suitable for sale.

We will have to deal with the extermination of living and half-dead by ourselves since there are sufficient monsters, both new and old. But the battle is exactly the same like in Fallout 4: seemingly were not enough for the designers to raise the shooting to the level of an outstanding shooter.

The only novelty is the modified V.A.T.S. mode. He no longer pauses the video game and does not slow down time - now this is a trivial auto-sight: a legitimate cheat sends bullets to fly along the most unthinkable trajectories, and in close combat can even pull the player a little. It appears odd, but it's convenient to shoot even from a gamepad.

That's just convenient - it doesn't mean interesting: artificial intelligence is crude, and it is impossible to come across an opponent. Players simply don't have any reason to conflict with each other: there are many resources, and the reward for success is the exact resources. And the struggles with live players stuck in them for quite a while.

Formally, PvP style is available in the fifth degree, yet to kill is hard, despite a difference in levels. If the other player does not react to your attack, the harm almost does not pass through him, so he can peacefully go about his company while he is being poured with obscenities and lead. The hunter-victim mode, in which developers see their battle royale, is also unlikely to drag anyone out for long. Royal battle for five? Really?

Multiplayer is revived a bit only by routine squabbles to get "public workshops" - resources of rare materials and also simply handy bases. To begin with, such a workshop needs to be cleaned out of tanks and then shielded from dwelling rivals, that need aluminum and precious titanium. In fact, it's a lot simpler to get them by other, more comfortable, and not as troublesome procedures.

RPG no MMOre

But even if (un) fortunate enough to become involved with a struggle, it doesn't become more intriguing: passing doesn't endanger anything, and success gives little. But there is no interaction with others! Fallout 76 is an MMO from which all elements were cut away. There are no factions, no guilds, no auction. A text conversation that is normal isn't even, so making new friends is difficult. It's much better to come to your own - then you can find some pleasure.

The opportunity to meet with someone by chance is not higher than in No Man's Sky immediately after the launch: the Appalachia, to put it mildly, is not the location. Here you are able to walk for hours - and it's not about the players.

Bear in mind the system out of the part? So, now it does not exist there's still no one. The whole plot and quests are filed in the way possible: using diaries and notes. It is like we play indie terror, not AAA class RPGs. Though...

What type of RPG are we really speaking about? There is no requirement make decisions and to play a function. The jobs don't imply forks or any dilemmas: it comes down to studying, post-shooting, and running about. It's quite difficult to feel a world occupied exclusively by robots and mutants that are ugly in the duty. This is not the same as being accountable for the lives of the inhabitants deciding the fate of unhappy or Megaton synths. It is not clear why the entire world in must be saved.

Additionally, our actions have no consequences: in any situation, nobody will perish, not suffer, and not be upset. Everybody has died or turned so they won't be worse.

The role-playing system for the RPG is not any less important than the chance of wagering, and here in Bethesda, it also went wrong. in Fallout 76, it reached its climax, although simplification of pumping started in the series' third part, subsequently became notable in the fourth. In the long-suffering S.P.E.C.I.A.L. tore everything except seven basic characteristics. Furthermore, they are not even permitted to be distributed: initially, all parameters are equal to unity, to adjusting the appearance, and character creation is reduced.

A level increase permits you to raise among those features and get several new perk cards in the spirit of " 10 percent shotgun damage." At exactly the identical time, cards that are active can alter to the fly. Need to start up the lock? We remove the "Armsman" perk from the deck and put the "Cracker" card from its place. As a result, every hero is a soldier who is strong in both melee and ones, and fixes himself and plays the banjo well. The mechanisms proven to be quite flexible, but it doesn't pull the development of the character.
