Grand Prize: Apex Legends™ – 1,000 Apex Coins

About the game:

Royal battles are now not done only by the lazy. In the aftermath of the hype increased by PUBG and Fortnite, everyone strives to split to a brand new genre - from big publishers into unknown studios. It all resembles running following an incoming train, so it's not surprising that the trend for such projects has long been the subject of ridicule. The announcement of any video game dedicated for this mode provokes an obvious reaction: dear creators, you can not come up with anything new in this particular genre, do something else!

It ends up they can. So far so that Epic Games and PUBG Corp. have to think hard about how to deal with a daring newcomer. Meet the new king Apex Legends.

A nice surprise

The fact that EA is going to launch the Titanfall spin-off in such an odd form wasn't understood until the very last minute. After the buy of "electronics" studio Respawn Entertainment, there have been rumors regarding the next element, but nothing more. The fact that instead of a separate independent game in this universe, we'll be provided a f2p shooter, and even in the genre of this royal battle, was a surprise.'' But, there was just no opportunity to be amazed: the very first rumors about a new project appeared a few days before the official announcement, immediately after which the computer game was released.

And the fact is - what could be worse than the information "EA bought us, so instead of the third part of Titanfall we are creating a free shooter with lootboxes"? Is that the statement of a similar project for cellular devices.

In the wake of the enthusiasm raised by such an unexpected release, Apex Legends managed to gather a vital mass of players who chose to have a peek at the brand new shooter. And on you - the shooter turned out to be very good! After a day, you can find just two and a half thousand who once started the Legends; per week laterthey became ten times longer. At the moment, the record for users concurrently in the video game is equal to two million, and, seemingly, this is nowhere near the limit.

I'm legend

In any royal battle, there are two fundamental principles: a damaging ring doesn't allow it to sit in one area and inexorably pushes players against each other, and at the close of the round there should be just one (or one team, if we're talking about a style for squads). Apex Legends does not infringe on those unshakable foundations of this genre, but instead boldly experiments with others.

The most noticeable is the presence of various heroes, or, as they are called legends, here. Every personality, where there are eight so much, has a special look and unique skills and abilities, exactly like in some MOBA or Overwatch (because we've got a shot ). There are 3 abilities for every: a single passive, one activated and, ultimately, final, particularly important, which, out of habit, is called an "ult." By way of instance, a healthy Gibraltar carries a little power shield when aiming from some other weapon, understands how to install a protective dome that is impervious to bullets and shells, along with his third ability causes a potent bombardment; the enjoyable robot Pathfinder conveys a cat hook, which immediately moves in any way, can scan beacons to find out the place of the next ring, and finally hooks a particular cable into a reasonably considerable distance, which allies can utilize.

I won't list all the legends and all their skills, and that I shall simply state that the founders managed to create truly unique characters - both externally and concerning gameplay. By this, they are extremely reminiscent of the principal characters of Overwatch, minus the restrictions on the usage of weapons and gear - everyone is equal here.

Apex Legends doesn't have solo mode - just team fights (at least now). Sixty gamers are fighting about the map: 2 dozen teams of three individuals each. Prior to shooting, you have to pick a character for yourself and await the comrades to do this, and there can't be two identical legends in the team. The tactics for the approaching struggle ought to be considered even afterward - we recall the stage of selection in a variety of MOBAs.

There is just 1 map so much - Kings Canyon. Despite its fairly small size (compared with all the open areas of PUBG), it's a somewhat mixed group of locations where you can find equally open spaces and compact villages with cramped houses, and in a number of places, there are enormous buildings using a real labyrinth of rooms. Those who were waiting for the titans from Titanfall is going to be disappointed: there's not any technology whatsoever in the game. Yes, and it is not needed - the characters operate very briskly, therefore passing outside the circle happens very infrequently.

Landing on the battle is traditional for your genre - falling from a great height, which lets you fly to almost anywhere on the map. But then the already familiar fun starts - a feverish search for some kind of weapon, so the very first fights with people who landed close, the conclusion of the bounds of the next ring, and the planned motion towards the secure zone together with the assortment of valuable loot. To kill all the ones you meet or hide to the past - the decision is yours.

Security in numbers

Apex Legends is a team activity film. The deficiency of a solo style is not accidental (and it's still unknown whether they could add it later on without breaking the balance): many gameplay mechanisms are specifically built on the interaction of players.

The death of one of the allies isn't a paragraph. Firstly, provided that he has not expired or is completed by enemies, even a comrade can be reanimated. Second, even if this did not succeed, then the survivors have as much as a minute and a half to boost a banner from the corpse. It can be credited to one of these lighthouses of the Renaissance, where the deceased will go back to existence.

The large value of the TTK index (time to kill, roughly speaking - how many bullets must be implanted in the enemy to kill him) not only leads to delayed shootings but also nullifies almost all attempts to deal with the enemy alone. Even having a valuable position, you can not always use it successfully: wounded birds are immediately handled, and when your opponents stick together, then await a barrage of return fire. And this is without taking into consideration the skills of these figures, and practically each of them has something in reserve that will help both himself and his comrades to survive in battle or to conceal. You need to stay together.

It is clear that it's much better to act on a team played with voice communication, but matches using "randoms" as allies can also be rather successful. Apex has an exceptional tagging system which helps to understand even the not very talkative gamers who prefer not to use a microphone.
